Sustainable Innovation in Automotive Luxury
Lunaz Design, renowned for its expertise in transforming classic cars into electric vehicles (EVs), has introduced an eco-conscious concept featuring the iconic Aston Martin DB6.
This visionary project combines the allure of classic luxury with a commitment to sustainability, incorporating a plethora of sustainably sourced and upcycled materials alongside a cutting-edge all-electric powertrain.
Sustainable Material Revolution
In the pursuit of ‘sustainable luxury,’ Lunaz Design has curated a range of innovative materials for the Aston Martin DB6 concept.
The dashboard and gear shifter boast a unique veneer made from discarded egg and nut shells blended with an organic, biodegradable binder.
Apple pomace, a by-product of cider, juice, and compote production, takes the form of leather-like piping on the headlining, seats, and door cards.
Eco-Friendly Upholstery and Flooring
The seat upholstery embraces large quantities of recycled cotton, completely avoiding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs), often referred to as ‘forever chemicals.’
Cabin and boot-floor carpets are crafted from regenerated nylon, sourced from recycled waste materials such as fishing nets and discarded carpets.
Low-Carbon Leather and Biodegradable Touches
Even the limited leather elements within the cabin uphold sustainability standards, being recognized as the ‘world’s lowest-carbon leather.’
Manufactured with emissions 30-50% below industry standards, this leather is a by-product of the meat industry, ensuring complete biodegradability.
Vision for Sustainable Luxury
While currently a design study, Lunaz Design’s founder, David Lorenz, has noted a considerable interest from potential customers in adopting sustainable alternatives to traditional leathers and veneers.
Lorenz emphasizes the project’s capability to create authentic, luxurious interiors that align with the values of the most esteemed automotive brands while minimizing environmental impact.
Production-Ready Eco-Conscious Design
Lunaz Design asserts that all materials featured in the DB6 concept are production-ready, awaiting an eco-conscious enthusiast to transform this vision into reality.
However, given the premium nature of Lunaz’s electric-converted Aston Martin DB6, with a price tag exceeding $1 million or close to £800,000 before taxes, the realization of this sustainable luxury comes at a premium cost.
